• Get the approval to teach!

Let’s have a look at the steps you’ll need to follow in order to become a teacher in NSW public schools! First of all, you will need to meet the NSW Department of Education’s requirements for approval to teach. 

In order to start your application for the approval to teach, you need to get your NSW Working with Children Check clearance from the NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian and apply for and gain accreditation from the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).

In 2019 the approval to teach is going to see some changes in the requirements and the documentation. You can sign-up to the alert service provided by the NSW Government to receive all the updates of the new 2019 procedure to get your approval to teach. There are different pathways to be followed in order to get the approval, depending on your level of experience and whether your teaching education commenced prior or after 2019.

• Graduates who started the teacher education course before 2019 

• Graduates who started the teacher education course from January 2019 and beyond 

• Experienced NSW public school teachers returning after a break from service

• Experienced teachers from another NSW system, or from interstate or overseas.
